Jamboree News - AJ2010 – May 2009

It is back to school for second term, so it is time to take your Jamboree arrangements to the next level.

Have you applied?

Thank you to the many people who have already applied.  There are already many hundreds of you from the ACT, and thousands from around Australia and even further.  The time to apply has been extended by a few weeks to assist Scout Troops and their families get organised – take advantage of this.  On Sunday 24 May from 10am – 3pm Contingent team members will be at the Branch office to help you apply or answer questions.

To apply go to the Website the ACT Scout Website www.actscoutaction.org.au and follow the AJ2010 links or go straight to the AJ2010 site at http://scoutsaj2010.com/   There is a contingent link where you will find supporting information for those from the ACT; there is an applications process to follow including adding a digital photo, and it needs to be complete before you can print it and then get parents to sign it.  You can do some, save it, and come back to it later.  Finally, when printed and signed it needs to be given to your regular Scout Leader.

What’s next?

The Contingent team has been meeting and is looking forward to getting the whole ACT Contingent organised.  This means creating our ACT Jamboree Scout Troops, its leader teams, and those in many other roles helping to make the Jamboree a success.  We’d like to do this by early June to help each troop have time to be ready – preparing our youth members, the practicalities including transport and special needs, and specific training for leaders and youth leadership roles.

You might like to keep the qualifications required by Scouts and Leaders in mind, and create Troop programs to assist.  Cotter Shield will have helped many in both experience and a couple more nights, and there are still a few camping nights left before the end of autumn.  And you can create opportunities in winter using bushwalks or cross over activities with some more protection, or head closer to the coast.

Qualifications

The requirements are on the web site as above, however in summary for Scouts you must have, by the end of year, 10 nights camping as a Scout including one camp of three nights duration, your Pioneer Badge (Big Red to many), not be older than your 15th birthday by the time of the Jamboree next January, and approved by your Scout Leader.

Anything else?

Get your friends organised and your troop.  Get some fundraising going and assist any CubScouts who are still joining the troop and may wish to attend – they might just have enough time.

Get someone to answer your Jamboree questions if you need to know more – your Scout Leader, or an email to scout.commissioner@act.scouts.asn.au
