Jamboree News - AJ2010 – June 2009

The Jamboree is now just over six months away and overall Jamboree arrangements are proceeding smoothly, with some of your Contingent team meeting regularly in Sydney.

Making the ACT Contingent – troops, etc

Locally our preparations are picking up and will become much more visible in the weeks ahead.  With the official closing date now passed many ACT arrangements can be confirmed – this exciting step means ACT Jamboree troops and activity roles will be established and each us of will have a spot.

Still to apply, or application not yet complete?

You can continue to apply to be part of the Jamboree, and doing so promptly is encouraged to help try and find a spot for you.  If you have applied and finalising the process is yet to occur through your Scout Leader, Group Leader, or Scouting lead, then please do so – we do not want to miss you in getting the Contingent organised.

Preparations

Please keep your personal and section preparations in mind.  For leaders it can be your leader training, for troops activities to help our youth members be qualified eg camping nights, Pioneer level, etc.

Keep watching for information updates at the ACT Scout Website www.actscoutaction.org.au – why not bookmark it.  This item will be there shortly.

Depending on your role, please note the following dates –

-       Jamboree Troop Leaders first meeting – Thursday 25 June

-       All Leaders day (including other adults, Venturers and Rovers) – Sunday 26 July

-       Jamboree PL’s training day – Sunday 20 September

-       Pre Jamboree Camp (mandatory for every ACT Contingent member) – 30 October to 2 November, costs are included in your Jamboree fee

-       Jamboree – 4 – 14 January 2010

-       For Troop members (Leaders & Scouts), as will be advised by your Jamboree troop leader

Future Scout Day is another exciting element of a Jamboree, providing a great day for CubScouts and Joeys – Paul Janssens at Paul.Janssens@aph.gov.au will be pleased to hear from all packs & mobs.

Consider those birthdays and reward occasions and whether a gift might help someone going to the Jamboree – a new sleeping bag, quiet time game, waterproof coat, help with spending money, etc.

Money

It is soon time for the second payment, due 30 June.  On 21 June the Contingent team will be at the Branch Office from 1pm to 4pm to take payments and answer any other Jamboree questions.  Payments will be made automatically for those who indicated such at the time of application – please check your statement to ensure this occurs.

There are also some monies available to assist those where some support might make a big difference – a separate email and advice to Groups will be issued shortly.

 Anything else?

Get someone to answer your Jamboree questions if you need to know more – your Scout Leader, or an email to scout.commissioner@act.scouts.asn.au
