Information Parents may need

It is our aim to provide as much information as possible, so that   you are informed as to where things are up to in relation to the Jamboree. There is a lot of information around in one form or another but this page is to highlight the most relevant and timely pieces of information.

For now the most important things are:

Applications are due on the 31 March 2009 along with a deposit of $300

October 30 -31 and the 1st November are the dates set aside for Pre-Jamboree Camp. This is when we begin the Troop and Gear shake down. It is also when we will most likely   hand out the Jamboree Kit.

3 January 2010 at around 9am the Contingent buses will leave for the Jamboree.

VISITING AJ2010

In view of the security requirements for this event it is important we do not embarrass Scouters or Parents who decide to front up and visit the Jamboree. Since the NSW Police will be in charge of this there will be no conning of the entry management people and we need to have people let us know.

Unlike past Jamborees the 22nd Australian Jamboree will not be open to the public as a result all persons wishing to visit must apply to enter the site. All Scouters who plan to wear their uniform must apply no later than 48 hours prior to their visit. All non Scouters must apply 5 days prior to allow for the compulsory clearances to be obtained. Failure to apply will mean access will be denied. It is also important to note that all visitors must be off the site by 6pm unless prior approval to remain has been granted by the JOC

CLOTHING

CLOTHES:    Jamborees are extremely active events that often involve situations where participants will get wet and/or dirty. Jamborees are no fashion events, you should be looking at older clothes that you won't mind being damaged.   Jamborees being in January are mostly HOT and mostly sunny, shirts with sleeves and collars are the most suitable, tops without sleeves are unacceptable wear.

HATS:  Brimmed hats are essential and are supplied as part of the Jamboree Kit. Baseball style caps are not appropriate at Jamboree.

FOOTWEAR: Enclosed shoes/sneakers are the only footwear for general wear at the Jamboree. Crocs, thongs and sandals are only appropriate for the showers. A second pair of old sneakers for those wet events would be an advantage.

PERSONAL ITEMS

Watches: It is advisable to leave good watches or those with sentimental value at home and if it is necessary to take a watch buy a cheap digital that will not cause upset if lost.

Mobile Phones: There will be phones on site for Scouts to phone home. There will be no charging facilities for mobile phones in the Troop lines. Another factor against mobile phones is that the coverage at Cataract Scout Park is at best awful and at worst nonexistent.

iPods:  Again there are no charging facilities in the troop lines and items such as these if lost can cause upset and spoil the jamboree experience.

Knives: The only knife a scout will need at the Jamboree is the one in their mess kit. If cutting implements are required they will be in the troop supply kit.
