The Aim:
Many leaders put a lot of effort into putting together great activities. This Wiki is aimed at putting all of that information in one spot so that we can share it, and reuse some of that effort. Additionally, there are loads of resources around Canberra, so this Wiki attempts to capture those in a form which is readily useable by the local scouting community.
What should go up here:
Whilst the aim is to have a resource aimed at ACT environs - those activities and resources that are available to us in the ACT, if you have a great game or activity that is non specific, but you'd like to share it - why not! You might have activity descriptions, challenges, route cards and risk plans, great hikes you've done, etc.
Some of the things you'll find in here:
- World Scout Environment Badge resources
- Skipper the Namadgi which won the Sydney to Hobart in its class in 2007?
- Branch Resources - equipment to borrow, Activities Leaders to help with running activities..
- Rogaining at Cottermouth (did you know there was a course already set up??
- Cross country skiing at Cabramurra (did you know there is a scout hall there that sleeps 50)
- Mountain bike riding down Two Sticks Road in the Brindabellas (did you know it's in our back yard, and mostly down hill!)
- Hikes all around Canberra
- GeoCaching - did you know there are over 900 caches in a 50 km radius of Canberra, and Branch have GPS's for loan?
- Some example Patrol Activities involving push bikes, museums and badgework

Why a Wiki:
For this database to be successful, it has to be easy to use, easy to search, and easy to maintain. Traditional databases and web pages need to be managed by small numbers of people to keep them structured. In contrast, a wiki is unstructured, can be added to by anyone, and its best feature is its search function. This means that if we get in the habit of uploading information when we come across it, we will all end up with a resource which is very useful - so some of you guys will contribute those ideas, programs and plans that are buried in your hard drives, and to put them on the wiki.
Who can Create Content/How Do I Get Started??
Anyone in the ACT Branch who has some content and is happy to dabble in the world of the wiki - it is very easy, and you just need an account - create one through the link at the top right of this page. Then, have a quick read of the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to get started.
